Beloved in Jesus Christ, Thank you for worshiping with us on Palm Sunday. This year is different, to put it mildly. Our shared worship is on-line, with video and audio components, because we cannot worship together in the sanctuary at Church of Our Redeemer. It is shared in another way: we have had the privilege of working together with the two churches of Clarke Parish in Berryville, where I was interim rector in 2018, and with Christ Church in Millwood, where I served as a supply priest in 2019, before coming to Our Redeemer. Because I know these two churches and their priests, I felt that it would be a blessed blending to bring our congregations together virtually to experience the exaltation of the Palm Sunday part of the service, and the desolation of the Passion of Our Lord. Thank you to the Very Rev. Matt Rhodes of Christ Church and the Rev. Justin Ivatts of Clarke Parish for allowing us to join with them to observe this great event in our church year. Despite the challenges we face with the virus Covid-19, I think that we found a way to give glory to God. You will see in the bulletin below, the credits for the musicians. They went out of their way to make this event beautiful. The administrative part of putting this together was challenging. Thank you to the Very Rev. Matt Rhodes for composing a wonderful bulletin, to Laura Harrigan, working to ensure here at Our Redeemer that all the components of the service are available to all of us, and to my former colleague Robin T. McFillen, administrator of Clarke Parish, for extraordinary efforts to make sure that the document is available in an accessible audio/video form. In this time of pandemic, we observe the extremes of humanity. That is somehow fitting to Palm/Passion Sunday, when our Lord and Savior experienced the extremes of human behavior. Let us go forward in faith. Easter is coming—and there are hard steps to take to get to that great celebration. Yours with love in Jesus Christ, Mother Georgia+ |
